How to get sound out of your device while having a controller plugged in through USB??

I'm having a bit of trouble trying to access the sound while I have my ps4 controller plugged in through USB on my Google pixel 2.
I have turned on 'disable USB audio routing' in developer options on my phone and that has not worked.

Wondering if anyone has had any similar issues?
