Bizarre Gamepad

Greetings all,

I'm trying to get my game pad (ipega pg 9017) to work with epsxe. The issue is whenever I try to map the controls manually, epsxe doesn't detect my right joystick and it also registers the left stick the same as the d-pad (hat). What's unusual is I don't get this problem in other emulators. Furthermore, when I'm in test axis mode, epsxe reads all the inputs normally (left stick and pad are separate, while the right stick registers).
